Texas A&M Men's Hoops Lands Recruit Away From Mizzou

Though the season was not nearly as successful as has been the norm under Billy Gillispie and Mark Turgeon, the one thing new head coach Billy Kennedy has been able to do is recruit. Recently, he managed to pull a recruit away from former Big 12 foe and current SEC opponent Missouri.

That player is Rivals.com three-star prospect Shawn Smith. The shooting guard is 6-foot-3 and is from Jacksonville, Florida. He's reportedly a pretty good scorer:

Rivals.com and ESPN recruiting have Smith as a 3-star shooting guard who is a good passer as a slash style wing.

Smith committed to Central Florida in January of 2011 before decommitting almost exactly one year ago. He then committed to Missouri in August.

Smith had offers from Missouri, Cincinnati, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Kansas State and West Virginia.

The addition of Smith is also important since Naji Hibbert announced he was going to be transferring. Losing that depth in the backcourt meant A&M could have used another scorer. Oh, and also the fact that outside Kris Middleton, the Aggies didn't have much scoring at all this season. So, this should help on a couple of levels.
