Texas A&M Spring Practice 2012: Kevin Sumlin Glad To Finally Be Coaching

The Texas A&M Aggies began spring practice with a lot of newness on Saturday with the SEC patch on their practice uniform and new head coach Kevin Sumlin. Sumlin was extremely happy to start spring drills since he no longer is just talking and giving speeches:

"This is great for me, because I'm off the speaking tour," a smiling Sumlin said of finally starting spring drills. "Now I get to coach football and don't have to go all over the place. That's the reason I'm here - not to make speeches and do all of that stuff but to coach football.

"For me, personally, this was a lot of fun."

With this being the first spring practice there was not a lot of information about who will replace Ryan Tannehill at quarterabck, and being the first practice that was to be expected. The only information was that the race is wide open between sophomores Jameill Showers and Matt Joeckel plus freshmen Johnny Manziel and Matt Davis.

One difference in the spring practices under Sumlin is the tempo of practice and linebacker Sean Porter talks about that in a post practice interview:

The annual Marron and White game will be played at Kyle Field on April 28.
