Jameill Showers Is Early Leader In Quarterback Battle After First Scrimmage

One of the high priority items this spring for the Texas A&M Aggies was to find a replacement for quarterback Ryan Tannehill is off to the NFL. The battle has been between Jameill Showers, sophomore Matt Joeckel and then freshmen Johnny Manziel and Matt Davis.

Showers is looking like the front runner for the starting position after the teams first scrimmage on Saturday afternoon due to his strong arm, but it is still early as this was the first scrimmage of spring.

Overall the scrimmage did not go as well as new head coach Kevin Sumlin wanted:

"I wasn't real happy with the tempo today," Sumlin said. "It can be faster, and guys have got to understand that."

"If anything I was a little disappointed with our energy level."

The best position group in the first scrimmage was wide receivers where Nate Askew, LeKendrick Williams, Malcome Kennedy and Mike Evans all played well.

There was only one injury on Saturday which came to running back Will Randolph who left with an undisclosed leg injury.
