NFL Mock Draft 2012: Tannehill Still In Top 5

There hasn't been a quarterback that has risen up the charts as quickly as Ryan Tannehill since...Christian Ponder? Okay, so maybe teams outside the top two routinely reach on guys they think have potential to be star QBs in the league. For every Jay Cutler, there's a Matt Leinart.

I've never been a fan of Tannehill going so highly in the draft. I think he's a good prospect and is athletic enough to really cause some mismatches at the next level. The problem I have is with his decision-making. Watching him play for about a year and a half, Tannehill made some pretty bad throws or bad reads in crucial situations (2010 Oklahoma State game, for instance).

For him to be successful, he ideally needs to go to a team that could wait on him to develop. Maybe that team is Miami, but I'm not sure he'd get the time in Cleveland.

FWIW, if Tannehill goes in the first round, he'll be the first Aggie quarterback to ever get drafted that highly. The previous record-holder was Stephen McGee in 2009 in the fourth round. The rest? Only Reggie McNeal was drafted before the seventh round, with Gary Kubiak and Bucky Richardson both going in the eighth (back when there was an eighth round). Maybe Tannehill can become the exception to this rule?
